If you’re thinking of buying a 1MW solar power plant for your place or you’re keen on knowing how much electricity a 1MW solar panel generates in a month, keep reading this article and learn what factors affect the electricity generation of a solar panel. You can also simply use a solar calculator to calculate your KW requirement as per your area available for installation.
The following elements influence the amount of electricity generation from solar power plant:
1. Panel material
There are three types of solar panels based on the material: monocrystalline,
polycrystalline, and thin films. They vary in terms of efficiency.
2.Module quality
Different brands of modules have varying levels of efficiency. The higher the brand, the higher the efficiency and the lower the degradation. As a result, there will be an increased generation in the long term.
3.Location
Electricity generated from solar power plants is influenced by radiation factors. Radiation varies from place to place—the more the radiation, the greater the generation.
4.Temperature
Because solar panels are typically tested at 25 degrees Celsius, the temperature coefficient percentage depicts the change in the generation when the temperature rises or falls by one degree.
5. Orientation
For maximum electricity generated from solar power plants, it should be slanted at an angle equal to the place’s latitude. As the sun is higher in the summer and lowers in the winter, modifying the tilt
of the panels as per the season allows you to capture more energy throughout the year. In brief, changing the angle twice a year provides a significant energy increase.

A 1-megawatt solar power plant can generate 4,000 units per day on average. So, therefore, it generates 1,20,000 units per month and 14,40,000 units per year.
Let’s understand it properly with the help of an example. The solar power calculation of a 1MW solar power plant goes as follows:
Example: This is an ideal case of solar power calculation with several assumptions.
No. of Days in a month – 30. Let us assume an average of 4 hours of bright sunlight per day.
The electricity generated would depend on the irradiance also. But as we are considering an ideal situation here, let us assume in the whole 4 hours of sunshine, the irradiance is as per rated by the PV module manufacturer. Hence, No. of Hours of sunlight = 30 x 4 = 120 hours.
Energy Generated= installed capacity x No. of hours of operation at full capacity= 1 MW x 120 h = 120 MWh = 1,20,000 units of electricity (kWh)
