With the increasing energy demands and limited conventional sources to adhere to, there arises a need for renewable energy sources to cater to Uttar Pradesh's development. Alternative energy sources such as solar energy, biomass energy, and hydroelectric power generation are given priority and promotion.

Owing to the large installed rooftop solar power generation capacity the UP has, it ranks seventh in India in terms of Solar energy generation. This encouraged the UP Government to spread awareness about local and residential solar energy consumption. For this Solar panel subsidy in UP has been introduced to facilitate this.

The Subsidy on solar panels in UP will encourage the localities to install the solar panel for residential consumption as solar panel installation is a hefty investment.

Solar panel subsidy in UP:  A guide

The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has announced a subsidy on solar panel in UP. This subsidy is valid only for residential rooftop solar projects.

The Solar panel price in UP differs based on the range of kW.

The Saur Urja price list in UP is all under :

  • The rooftop projects in the range of 1kW to 3kW under the residential and domestic category will get a subsidy of Rs. 15000 to Rs. 30000. For this, the centre will provide a subsidy of 40%.
  • The rooftop projects between 3kW to 10kW, a subsidy of Rs. 15000 to Rs. 20000 will be provided. For this, the centre will provide a subsidy of 40% and for the first 3kW and 20% for the remaining 7 kW.
  • The rooftop projects with a capacity between 10 kW to 100 kW, the centre will give a subsidy of 40 %  for the first 3kW and 20% on for the remaining kW.

According to the clarification issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy ( MNRE ), solar panel price in UP for rooftop solar installations are:

  • For installations up to 3kW, will be eligible for the subsidy of 40%.
  • For installation between 3kW to 10 kW, a grant will be provided 40% initially then 20% for the rest.
  • For installation above 10 kW will get 40% for the first 3kW and 20% for the 7kW.
  • For capacity beyond 10kW, there isn't any subsidy for the time being.

Steps for solar panel subsidy in UP

The solar panel subsidy is a two-step process as below.

  • Application Submission

The application for solar panel subsidy is to be submitted either Online or Offline.

For online submission, the following steps must be taken.

  • Visit the official website of UPNEDA.
  • Fill out the Personal Detail form.
  •  Provide your Bank Details.
  • Quote correct connection details.
  • Tick the 'Declare' section after reading thoroughly.
  • Fill out the Captcha and then click SUBMIT.
  • Contact the power distribution company
