Western State of our India; Gujarat is bordered with Rajasthan, Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh. Gujarat receives a good amount of sunlight every year to produce or generate power. And it has also been one of the top contributors to generate power through renewable sources.
Gujarat stands at the second spot in the list of state-wise power generation capacity in India. It has the capacity to generate about 38,000 MW of electricity accounting for 10% of national capacity, whereas it’s the peak power requirement is 18,000 MW. As of 2020, the state satisfies approximately 35% of its energy requirement through renewable sources of energy including 7,845 MW from wind, 3,273 MW from solar, 81.6 MW from biomass, and 63.33 MW from mini-hydro power projects.
With an aim to increase the share of renewable energy to 53% by 2022, the government has a solar power policy in place. As per the amendment of 2016, a subsidy is offered for residential rooftop solar panel installation.
